Pregnancy
Growing a baby shouldn't wreck your back.
Back, pelvic and rib pain are common in pregnancy as your body changes shape and your ligaments loosen. We see pregnant practice members and adapt everything to suit.

- Pain at the front of the pelvis (pubic symphysis)
- One-sided pain low in the back or buttock
- Rib or mid-back pain as baby grows
- Pain rolling over in bed or getting up from a chair
Common causes
Where it often comes from.
- Hormones that loosen ligaments around the pelvis

Often it's a mix. Finding your mix is what your first appointment is for.
How we find out
Before we touch anything, we check.
- 01Your storyWhere it hurts, how it started, what makes it better or worse, and the old accidents and injuries.
- 02A thorough checkChiropractic, orthopaedic and neurological testing: movement, joints, muscles, reflexes, sensation and strength.
- 03Posture picturesDigital posture pictures from the front and side, so you can see what we see.
- 04AnswersX-rays only if your check points to them, then a report of findings in plain English, before care starts.
What care involves
A plan you understand, built around you.
Your care is adapted to your stage of pregnancy. We use supportive positioning and cushioning so you're comfortable, and choose techniques to suit.
We focus on the low back, pelvis, SI joints, hips and ribs, and give you exercises and practical tips for sleeping, lifting and moving. Let us know how far along you are when you book.
If we can't help, we'll tell you. No runaround, and no being kept on the books for the sake of it.
In the meantime
Three things you can do today.
A pillow between the knees, and one under the bump, can ease pelvic and back pain at night.
Keep your knees together getting in and out of the car or bed.
Walking and gentle exercise suited to your pregnancy help keep things moving.
General information only. Your chiropractor will tailor advice to you at your appointment.

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
We adapt positioning and techniques to each stage of pregnancy. Your chiropractor will talk you through everything and you're always in control.
When in pregnancy can I come in?
Any stage. Let us know how far along you are when you book so we can prepare.
What about after the birth?
Many people come in after the birth with back and pelvic pain from feeding, lifting and carrying. We see you then too.
More than a sore spot
Your spine talks to your brain.
The muscles around every vertebra are packed with sensors that tell your brain where your body is and how it's moving. When a joint stops moving well, that conversation breaks down, and pain is one of the signals. That's why we check your spine and nerves, not just where it hurts.
As your body changes through pregnancy, your brain is constantly updating its map of where everything is. Chiropractic care is a nervous-system input: research shows the brain responds to an adjustment in how it processes body information and controls muscles.
