Medicare care plans
Medicare care plans, made simple.
With a GP care plan, Medicare can cover part of your chiropractic care. Here's how it works, and exactly what to say to your GP.

Visits

A GP planA chronic condition management plan, and a referral from your GP.Who it's for
Ongoing problemsGenerally a condition that has lasted, or is likely to last, six months or more. How it works
Five steps to your first visit.
- Book a GP appointment. Ask reception for a longer appointment and tell them it's for a chronic condition management plan. Some people still call it a care plan or an EPC.
- Ask your GP. Not sure what to say? Use our script.
- Your GP decides. They check you're eligible, prepare your plan and write a referral to a chiropractor. Ask them to address it to Mornington Peninsula Chiropractic.
- Book with us. Online or by phone. Bring your referral and your Medicare card, or email the referral to us before your visit.
- We take care of the rest. We send your GP a report, as Medicare requires, and the front desk will explain your rebate on the day.
What to say to your GP
"I've had low back pain for about a year, and it's affecting my work and my sleep. I'd like to see a chiropractor at Mornington Peninsula Chiropractic. Could you assess me for a chronic condition management plan, and refer me for chiropractic care under Medicare?"
Swap the highlighted bits for your own. Your GP decides whether you're eligible.
Good to know
The fine print, in plain English.
- The 5 visits are shared across all allied health, such as physio, podiatry and dietitians. If your GP refers you to two providers, the visits are split between them.
- Care plans and referrals have an end date. If yours is getting old, check with your GP that it's still current before you book.
- You can claim a visit on Medicare or on your health fund, not both.
- You don't need a referral to see us. You only need one to claim the Medicare rebate.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book straight in. If you'd like to use a Medicare care plan or DVA, your GP sets that up.
What's the $125 web special?

Can I claim on my health fund?
Yes. If your extras cover includes chiropractic, claim on the spot with HICAPS and just pay the gap.
Can I use Medicare?
With a GP care plan, Medicare can cover part of your care. How care plans work, step by step
Will I be adjusted on my first visit?
Maybe, maybe not. That's up to the clinical judgement of your chiropractor. Many people arrive with problems they've had for a long time, and those often need more thorough testing first. We always do a proper job before we start, so in many cases we refer for further tests, including X-rays. That can mean your first adjustment comes at your report of findings appointment.
I've been hurt at work, or on the road.
Yes, come in under your WorkSafe or TAC claim. You pay us on the day and claim it back from your scheme. How it works
I'm a veteran. Do you see DVA card holders?
Yes. Gold and White Card holders: with a GP referral, we bill DVA directly, so there's nothing to pay for covered care. How DVA works here
What should I wear?
Something comfortable you can move in. You stay dressed for your appointment.
Is there parking?
Yes. Free parking right outside number 12.
