Hip pain
Walking, sitting, lying on your side.
Hip pain can come from the hip joint, the tendons around it, the low back or the pelvis. Working out which is the first step.

How we find out
Before we touch anything, we check.
- 01Your storyWhere it hurts, how it started, what makes it better or worse, and the old accidents and injuries.
- 02A thorough checkChiropractic, orthopaedic and neurological testing: movement, joints, muscles, reflexes, sensation and strength.
- 03Posture picturesDigital posture pictures from the front and side, so you can see what we see.
- 04AnswersX-rays only if your check points to them, then a report of findings in plain English, before care starts.
What care involves
A plan you understand, built around you.
We check the hip joint, the muscles and tendons around it, your pelvis and your low back, because each can produce pain that feels like "the hip".
Care may include adjustments to the low back and pelvis, work around the hip, and exercises to strengthen the glutes and hips. Many of our exercise videos, like glute bridges and clams, are built for this.
If we can't help, we'll tell you. No runaround, and no being kept on the books for the sake of it.
In the meantime
Three things you can do today.
Sleeping on your side? A pillow between the knees takes strain off the outer hip.
Sitting or standing with legs crossed can aggravate outer hip pain.
Glute bridges and clams are a good start. See our exercise library.
General information only. Your chiropractor will tailor advice to you at your appointment.

Is my hip pain actually from my back?
It can be. Low back and pelvis problems often refer pain into the hip and buttock, so we check them every time.
Can a chiropractor help hip pain?
It depends on the cause. Your new patient appointment works out where your hip pain is coming from and whether we can help.
Physio or chiro for hip pain?
Both work with hip pain. What matters is finding the true source. Our check covers the hip, pelvis and low back.
More than a sore spot
Your spine talks to your brain.
The muscles around every vertebra are packed with sensors that tell your brain where your body is and how it's moving. When a joint stops moving well, that conversation breaks down, and pain is one of the signals. That's why we check your spine and nerves, not just where it hurts.
In a 12-week trial of adults over 65, chiropractic care improved stepping reaction time, ankle position sense and multisensory integration compared with a control group. Falls weren't measured, but it shows how much hip and leg control depends on the nervous system.
